Sound Design

"As a director of theatrical productions, I know the importance of sound. I'm not talking about the ability to hear the performers, that's important to be sure. I'm talking about the additional character sound often supplies to a production.

At its simplest, there are doorbells, car horns, and door slams. At the more sophisticated level there are werewolf howls, the fluttering of bats in flight and a musical underscore with the low chatter of guests for a party scene that doesn't keep the audience from hearing the actors. Did I mention a continuously ticking clock? These were only a few of the expectations placed on Barb Rich who navigated 140+ sound cues for Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors. As a consummate professional, Barb was more than equal to the task of making this production the most acclaimed and one of the most popular shows of the season. Besides the creativity and the professionalism, what I like most about working with Barb is her ability to get to "yes." I'm often presented with the reasons things can't be done or why this alternative would be better. That isn't my experience with Barb. She is there to work collaboratively with me so that we pull everything together for the final vision. I highly, highly (yes, two highlys) recommend Barb Rich for any and all sound needs."
